Bahati chased away froma Azimio rally in Mathare

A video of singer Bahati being chased away at an Azimio rally is doing rounds.

Bahati had attended a rally graced by top Nairobi leaders of the Azimio coalition in Mathare where he is aspiring to be the area MP.

In the video, Bahati is seen being forced out of the meeting even before he could make his speech to his supporters.

The rally was held at his Mathare Constituency where he is seeking to represent them on a Jubilee party ticket.

Some Azimio leaders are seen gesturing for Bahati to exit the stage. Bahati is seen being roughed up by a group of men even as his security detail tries to intervene.

This comes a few days after Bahati had a bitter exchange of words with ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna.

Sifuna had announced that Azimio had settled on the incumbent Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch to fly their flag in the August 9 election.

"Zoning was done perfectly even here in Mathare we have agreed that it's an ODM zone. We only have one candidate in Mathare and that is Oluoch, this young man called Bahati is my younger brother and we will talk. I will make sure that we find him another position within the Azimio government," Sifuna said.

Speaking to Word Is, Bahati said his party, Jubilee, was not aware of the propaganda.

Sifuna had, on Twitter, thanked Jubilee Party, a member of Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya, for agreeing to back Oluoch.

But Bahati said Sifuna should stop spreading fake information and concentrate on his campaigns.

"He is jobless, unlike me. I am an award-winning musician. Sifuna and Hon [Rachel] Shebesh said they cannot support youth like me but I want to remind them that Mathare people will soon decide," he claimed.

Bahati accused Sifuna of hiring brokers to make a fake statement after a botched attempt to have the singer removed from the bid.  Read more
